About WY Quality Counts!™
The WY Quality Counts!™ Program is the latest program addition to the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services. The program is focused on delivering services to provide awareness and training about why the quality of child care does count for Wyoming's children, parents and future.
The Department of Workforce Services joins Wyoming child care owners and staff in the belief that awareness and training will raise the quality of child care in the state. WY Quality Counts!™ provides training opportunities for providers and staff so that they can offer Wyoming's children the best care possible based on universal best practices.
Why Quality Counts.
Quality child care is more than a safe and nurturing place for children to spend their time. Quality programs help to prepare children for success by using developmentally-appropriate methods to help children to develop cognitive, language, emotional, social, and motor skills. A high quality child development program, whether it is provided by parents or by a child care facility, is crucial to strengthening families and investing in the future of Wyoming's children.
What is Quality?
Indicators of quality child care include:
- Learning environments and curriculum rich in opportunities for children to develop cognitive, language, emotional, social and motor skills - that take into consideration the individual developmental needs and interests of the child;
- Appropriate staff-to-child ratios, group sizes and interactions;
- High standards for health, safety and nutrition;
- Involvement and coordination with the child's family;
- Clear and accessible administrative policies and procedures;
- Periodic evaluation of the program; and
- Educated, experienced and knowledgeable staff.
