Children of all ages love music! One of the easiest ways you can personalize a song is to insert the name of your child and family members into the song. This can help your child with their ability to recognize themselves and others as distinct individuals.
When you sing to your child, add their name (or a family member’s name) into the song to help them recognize their own name, the names of others, and develop a sense of self.
Songs that already have a name, like “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” are easiest, but don’t be afraid get creative with other songs, too! You may feel a little silly singing “If Rebecca’s Happy and You Know It, Clap Your Hands!” but your child will love it!
