Include your kids in holiday prep.
They want to be helpful! And it always feels good to be involved. Let your kids help with the baking, wrapping presents, and getting the house ready if you are having visitors.
Take a hot chocolate break.
Make different styles of hot chocolate together, then taste them and talk about what you like best. To make them different, add toppings like whipped cream, marshmallows, or sprinkles, or try it with a candy cane!
Make holiday cards.
Kids love sending things to people they know. Do you have family and friends far away? Your kids can draw, paint, or use stickers to create something festive, sign their names, and help you take their cards to the mailbox.
Tell stories and read books about holiday traditions.
Stories about what makes the holidays special for your family will help your kids recognize why this time of year is important to you, and will help them connect with it, too.
Choose a time of day to check in with your kids.
Once a day, take a moment to intentionally check in with your kids. Maybe you talk about your day during bedtime, or you go over what the day will look like at breakfast. Whenever it is, checking in with your kids and listening to what they say will keep you connected to how they feel and what they need.
