It’s not just arts and crafts. “Making” describes the ways hands-on, creative expression gives kids opportunities to explore, create, learn, and try something new.

Fine Motor Skills & Hand-Eye Coordination

Doing tasks that involve working with their hands and combining various materials to create a final product helps kids develop their coordination and dexterity.

Creative Thinking

Incorporating sensory play with art activities gets kids in contact with new textures, smells, sounds, and situations without any preconceived notions or expectations. As they discover the way things seem and feel, kids use their imaginations to apply what they discover to the project they are making.

Critical Thinking

For most making activities, kids are tasked with combining various elements and following steps. By experimenting, they can figure out certain steps, and through asking questions and communicating with their adults, kids understand different ways to complete their project.

Concentration & Patience

Making is a great mechanism for exploring patience, attention to detail, and pattern recognition. These skills are important for development, and making something is a fun way to work them!
