Mental health challenges among young people require specialized approaches for identification and care, distinct from adult strategies. Children and adolescents undergo key emotional, social, and cognitive growth phases, increasing their sensitivity to mental health issues. Signs of mental health problems in youth may be misinterpreted or missed, often appearing as conduct issues or normal developmental shifts.
Recognizing the signs of mental illness among children and adolescents can allow us to respond with empathy and informed care so we can support their path to recovery.
